Department of Textile Processing

The Department of Textile Processing occupies an eminent position in the University. It provides trained man-power to the textile processing industry. The department offers a four-year degree program through a range of courses covering all areas of wet processing of textile materials.The theoretical knowledge is strengthened with extensive practical work.The department hosts a blend of conventional and modern processing machines for practical training of the students.Our graduates are holding important positions in the industry from production to management. They are also engaged in sales of textile chemicals, dyes and pigments of multi-national organizations.The students get internship in the industry and make frequent visits during vacations to obtain comprehensive knowledge and to see latest trends of the industry.

Textile Processing Department is committed to provide trained manpower to the Textile Chemical Processing Industry by imparting the best possible theoretical and technical knowledge of both basic and applied textile coloring and finishing science for the socio-economic development of the society.

Bearing in mind our motto "To innovate and lead”, for the benefit of mankind", Department of Textile Processing takes pride in offering a quality program which nurtures the graduates as critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers, lifelong learners and ethical leaders. We have well-established laboratories, highly qualified teaching faculty which ensure quality education.

Our close collaborations with Industry and other universities create a wealth of research options. We also have a long-established research culture which supports our academics in conducting research that has an impact and practical value. Apart from being a close partner of industry, our department has strong regional and global connections. We are weaving a growing and increasingly effective global network which further facilitates our educational and research development, as well as enhancing our academic and cultural exchanges. We are confident that our engineers will rise as shining stars for the development of NTU as well as Pakistan. We at NTU are also practical dreamers, who strive to turn our vision into reality.

I have published research about the synthesis of Nano encapsulated PCM and its heat transfer simulation. My current research area is the encapsulation of phase change materials, dyeing of textile materials and surface modification of textiles.

Dr. Abdu r Rehman

Chemical Modification, Fibers, Dyes and Pigments, Novel dyeing techniques, Chemical modification of the fibers to enhance their dyeability.

As nearly one third of the dye find its way to effluents causing a number of ecological and economic problems. Also the use of higher amounts of electrolytes and alkali make the processes quite environmentally unfriendly. By modifying and synthesizing novel dyes increase the fixation of the dyes which could impact socio-economically.

Research Area: Micro-Encapsulation Phase Change Materials PCMs, Novel Natural Dyes for Development of Functional Textiles. Previous and ongoing Research: I have published three research papers on synthesis and characterization, of Micro-capsules from PEG-1000 as Phase Change Material and their application on textile substrates. I have one conference paper on “A novel synthesis of solid-solid (SSMePCM) by in-situ polymerization" at International Conference on Nanomaterials, Functional and Composite Materials at Hong Kong, China. My ongoing research is on Photo electro-Fenton degradation of the organic pollutants using Fe-doped CuFe2O4 as heterogeneous catalyst.

Textile Chemical Testing, Consultancy Services and Quality Control Labs

The department provides testing and consultancy services to local textile processing industry. The department has well qualified and skilled staff and the whole faculty works as a team for this important service to the industry. The results of our testing lab are authentic and recognized all over the world.The Lab has calibrated instruments for testing of different textile products and chemicals. All tests are carried out in standard conditions. The Lab has been ISO 17025 accredited.
